The Perks of Studying in Philadelphia

Last week my class had the opportunity to meet with the park architect, Charles Tonetti, for a tour of the Independence Hall Tower. We were given special access to the upper floors of the Tower and reviewed both William Strickland’s 1828 work and more recent renovations. It was a wonderful experience seeing historic wood beams and trusses intermixed with iron trusses and witnessing the clock strike 3! Check out the video here.

Wood and iron trusses and the pendulum weight of the clock.

The wire in the corner is part of Benjamin Franklin’s original lightning protection system!
